(Sir Europe - Bratislava) - “The Fourteen martyrs of Prague in the context of the final period of the reign of Rudolph II” is the title of the conference planned for 25 September by the province of Franciscan Brothers in Czech Republic, in cooperation with the Catholic Faculty of Theology of the Charles University. The aim of the event is to introduce the historical context of the events that led to pillage of monasteries and killing of 14 Franciscans on 15 February 1611, and point to the political, religious, philosophical and cultural circumstances of the invasion of the Czech lands by the Passau army. Presentations will be divided into three main sections – history, theology and fine arts, and the organizers hope that they could help to find new historical relations and to open new questions regarding the matter, taking into account also the aspects of ecumenical dialogue. The program will include opening of the historical exhibition “Fourteen martyrs of Prague” at the premises of the Franciscan monastery in Prague. The beatification of Bedrich Bachstein and his companions is scheduled for 13 October this year.
